På initiativ af Jacob Ravn blev Access2innovation etableret som konsortium i 2007 af Norddanmarks EU-kontor i Aalborg Kommune, Syddanmarks EU-Kontor, Aalborg Universitet og Folkekirkens Nødhjælp. Målet var at vise, hvordan danske virksomheder i samarbejde med NGO’er og universiteter kunne skabe bæredygtige kommercielle løsninger til den humanitære sektor.
